DOVER boss Andy Hes-senthaler was full of praise for his players as they triumphed in difficult circumstances at nine-man Hartlepool United.

After striker Inih Effiong blasted home a first-half penalty, the Dover players were subjected to racist abuse as they celebrated in front of the home crowd behind the goal.

The game was delayed by almost eight minutes – with the possibility of the match being abandoned being discussed by both managers.

But the visitors dug in to see off what was at times a second-half Pools onslaught and pinch a second goal on the break late on.

And Hessenthaler said: “It’s a sad day for football. I don’t want to talk about anything else.

“We came away to a good team, an intimidating crowd and credit to my players – let’s just talk about the performance.
