Love of Maine leads new pastor to Deer Isle

DEER ISLE—Parishioners at the Deer Isle Sunset Congregational Church, UUC have been led by a new minister for the last two months, as Vicki Reeser has taken over the position.

Reeser, an ordained Lutheran minister, has spent the better part of the last two decades as a parish pastor in her home state of Pennsylvania. She and her partner Kim have vacationed and looked at several business opportunities in Maine for the last 10 years, and on a visit to Deer Isle in March, the couple found the opportunity they had been looking for.
“We happened to be here visiting and worshiping at the church, and I noticed that there was an interim pastor,” said Reeser. “I thought about what it would mean to do that work here and how we would make that happen.”
At that point, Reeser was serving as the manager of Spiritual Care Services of a large hospital, helping staff cope with the trauma faced after losing a patient.
