Challenges And Expectations from The New Chief of The Army Staff

The new Chief of Army Staff, Gen Bipin Rawat, has his work cut out. While he will need strategic acumen and calibrated aggression to deal with the adversaries, he will also have to use passive aggression to deal with the civilian hierarchy that apparently appears to be offering no resistance but in reality dominates and wants to retain control, writes BRIG NARENDER KUMAR.
During the Punic Wars that lasted more than 125 years many a great Generals fought series of battles from opposing sides, but ruthless history only remembers Hannibal and Publius Cornelius Scipio. They both led their armies at a time when odds were stacked against them with sheer brilliance and military genius. Scipio was 31 years and one of the junior most general when he defeated Hannibal’s invincible army at Zama. What is common among the great military leaders is vision, inspirational capabilities, compelling ability to unify and build a team and ability to pursue military objectives ruthlessly.
