GIOVANNI BOTTESINI, DOUBLE BASS CONCERTOS (DYNAMIC, 1997)
-

Each month, we celebrate a classic, bass-loaded album. Has it stood the test of time?
Regular readers of In The Groove will know that we’ve been a bit flippant lately, writing reams of prose about Madonna and what have you. Well, we’re getting our highbrow act on this month and heading to the rarefied stratosphere of classical music, and furthermore, we’re not hanging around in the tedious modern era. This time we’re going back to the golden age of the Fifties, but not the Fifties you’re thinking of—all the way back to the 1850s, when upright bass was all the rage in the absence of any alternative.
