If you’re not one of the hundreds of thousands of followers keeping a close eye on her daily activities and idiosyncrasies on Instagram, the name Yuka Mannami might not ring a bell. But, chances are that you might recognise her unmistakable oriental features and black waist-length hair with super short blunt-cut bangs from major runway shows, international fashion editorials and the covers of prominent fashion magazines – or most notably, some of Shiseido’s biggest advertising campaigns in recent years, of which she is a global ambassador.
NEW YORK MINUTE
In between shooting this month’s fashion spread and cover, which involved a pretty diverse crew flying in from different parts of the world in order to make it happen, Yuka moved around the private property in Greenwich, New York, feeling completely at ease – even with the owner’s pets roaming around freely, one of which really warmed up to her and can be spotted in the seventh look of this story giving our star of the day a friendly boop.
Having had a soft spot for animals since the first dog she got as a pet and grew up together with, which contributed a lot to the beautiful childhood she had, it didn’t come as a surprise when Yuka revealed that her present pooch, a Shiba Inu called Nachimaru – aka ‘the cutest thing in the world’ – is what she misses the most when she’s travelling, and that she would love to produce a documentary on animals if she’s given the chance.
