Travel Through VR
Exhibit
|September 2019
Travelling the world can be expensive, but what if you can experience the exotic locales without moving out of your living room?
Yes, all this can be possible with Virtual reality (VR) for little cost or no cost at all. VR is rapidly transforming the travel industries and it is still a largely untapped market. The benefit of VR is the immersive, cutting-edge technology that instantly jumps you into an ultra-realistic, three-dimensional world of far-flung, exotic locales without moving from your Living room.
Currently, over-tourism in popular destinations is degrading heritage sites, including the quality of life of the host and experience of visitors. Virtual reality not only offers alternative forms of access to threatened exotic locations, but it also recreates historical experiences and provides virtual access to remote locations you might not make it otherwise.
EVOKING A SENSE OF ‘BEING THERE’
According to scientific research, our brains seem to have built-in VR-like mechanism that enables us to live imagined experiences. Brains process and appraise mental images via the same neural pathways they use to receive stimuli from the real world. So, the imagined past or future can evoke emotions and feelings similar to how we react to everyday life. Virtual worlds use sensory stimulation and vivid imagery to generate authentic experiences. Immersion in these environments can lead to a deeper understanding of a place or event than simply reading about it or looking at pictures. It creates a sense of presence or being there.
