JUST like so many matches at the World Cup in Russia, Sunday’s final between France and Croatia lived up to the hype.

Fans glued to TV screens around the globe were treated to six goals, some fabulous football and a healthy helping of controversy as Les Bleus claimed the iconic trophy after a thrilling 4-2 victory in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Brendan Rodgers was among the many millions watching as the tournament came to a captivating conclusion, and the manager told the Celtic View that he was sad to see the end of such an entertaining and enthralling month-long spectacle.

“It was a very enjoyable tournament,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“There was some trepidation going into it about what might happen off the field, along with the introduction of VAR at a World Cup, but I think all the elements of it were great.

“We travelled out to St Petersburg last season so we saw their stadium and how good it was, and it looked like all the stadiums were fantastic. The football played was great and, in time, there will be trends that will be created through the World Cup in terms of how the football aspect went.
