Celtic’s new German striker is aiming to fire the Hoops to glory this season

IT was a whirlwind few days for Josephine Giard. Having flown into Glasgow last Wednesday to sign for Celtic, she enjoyed her first training session with her new team-mates the following day before making her debut for the Hoops on Sunday.

And while she didn’t mark her first appearance with a goal, the German striker was still delighted to play her part in the 4-0 SWPL Cup victory over St Johnstone.

Josephine’s arrival at Celtic will bolster Celtic’s attacking options for the season ahead, with the Hoops having started their league campaign with a win and draw, before Sunday’s cup victory.

For the 21-year-old forward, it will also be a new football experience, given that this is the first time she’s played for a club outside her native Germany.

It’s a big step for the player, but it’s one that she’s relishing, as she explained to the Celtic View.

“Celtic is a very big club and, for me, it’s very impressive because my previous club, Gutersloh, was much smaller with just some women playing,” she said. “Now, here at Celtic, there is obviously the men’s team as well as the women’s team.

“This is a big move for me and it’s the first time I’ve played football for a club outside of Germany. I have always wanted to play at the highest level that I can, so joining Celtic is a step-up for me and an opportunity this year for me to get even better.”
