Despite its title, the Bristol Belter does not include the city of the same name. Instead it explores the backcountry lanes and diverse landscapes around the West Country capital, on a route that’ll test your mettle and bike-handling skills.

It passes through four distinct areas, each with its own character: from the South Cotswolds (famous for honeystone cottages) to the Mendips (famous for Wurzels and cider), via the valley of the River Avon and the pan-flat lowlands of the Somerset Levels.

The organisers, Paul Newman and Mike Wilkens, are regular Bristol cyclists and have used their local knowledge to devise an intriguing 103- mile figure-of-eight route.
