Food photography is as old as the history of the medium. At the time, with no other frame of reference, it was heavily influenced and even emulated still life paintings. Photographers back then used food to elevate images of it as a form of art. This was until visuals of food exploded on the commercial arena and became popular in advertising and editorial projects that included magazines, cookbooks and advertisements. But it is this explosion that resulted in artists thinking about food differently, to not just photograph it as a still life form but to question its purpose and even morph its form to produce new meanings.
