A Lasting Legacy

This month, Wildlife Aid Foundation founder Simon Cowell MBE looks at the impact his charity’s work will have on the environment in decades to come

WHEN we release an animal back to the wild, we do everything we can to give it the best chance of survival. The one thing I’ve always wondered however, is the impact reintroduction – and consequently our work – has on the wider ecosystem in years to come. Hopefully, the animals we release go on to live a fruitful life, breeding and boosting wild populations.
Every year we repeat the process thousands of times and it has always bugged me that I don’t know whether what I am doing is having a discernible impact on a bigger scale. Obviously, a release and a second chance of life counts for that individual wild animal, and that is enough for me, but does it help the species as a whole?
