Emerging artist Camille Olsen-Ormandy followed in her creative parents’ footsteps, but is painting a distinct path of her own
THAT OLD ADAGE, “THE APPLE DOESN’T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE”, rings true for emerging artist Camille Olsen-Ormandy, who is the daughter of Dinosaur Designs founders and artists Louise Olsen and Stephen Ormandy, and granddaughter of well-known landscape artist John Olsen. “I was taught from a young age the power behind colour relationships and the excitement of storytelling and conversation that can appear within a composition,” Camille says. Genetics aside, Camille is making a name for herself with her striking portraiture work that is eerily reminiscent of Victorian-era Impressionist portraits with a millennial twist. Working from her leafy home studio in inner Sydney, Camille’s practice is entrenched in the culture of today – her biggest source of inspiration is Instagram, where she finds faces to draw. “My work is reflective of me and my interest in fashion, colour, styling and people,” Camille says. Currently studying Fine Arts at UNSW, the enthusiastic yet contemplative 19-year-old has big plans for the future and her career as an artist. “I’m excited to collaborate wit
