A typical Young India story of charting new paths and coming together for synergies. Plum by Bent Chair, is the coming together of a designer and a restaurateur, Natasha and Priyank, backed by her father’s legacy of expertise in manufacturing high precision instruments to combine fine dining and decor retail.

What is feeding the Indian design sector as we speak? Imagine this— in a quiet little town, famed more for defence establishments than anything else, is a lesser known industry quietly going about its business as a manufacturing hub for scientific instruments. In a high precision microscope unit, there is a gold mine of expertise in handling glass, metal and other materials. This expertise is transferred onto manufacturing of furniture designed by Genext of the family. Fanning this is the fact that skilled and semi-skilled artisans are accessible. Thanks to internet and technology, so is re-training of the artisans and their gen-next. Thus is born a furniture facility with scalable capacities. It doesn’t end here.
Now add to this a serial restaurateur, Priyank Sukhija’s skill-sets and design becomes the catalyst to spur both food as well as furniture business and a great story of India’s first all-retail restaurant is born. Plum by Bent Chair is a one-stop destination for fine cuisine and home decor shopping.
What were the challenges to set up the first all-retail restaurant?
Natasha: The biggest challenge we faced was introducing the concept of an all-retail restaurant to our customers. We wanted people to walk into Plum by Bent Chair and immediately understand the concept. We had to be very creative, especially in the set-up, so as to make it retail-friendly without ruining the dining experience.
