Cabin In The Sky

Ar. Akshat Bhatt creates a bohemian roof top hangout space made of timber, in the heart of a crowded Delhi neighborhood

Flanked by a garden on one side on one side and a water body with a fountain on the other, this spectacular timber cabin on the rooftop is the extension of a third-floor apartment in Delhi. Nuanced and warm, Architect Akshat Bhatt of Architecture Discipline has crafted an earthy home for a young family of four.
But it is not only the cabin that has been newly created; the apartment has also been deconstructed to form an open plan space, where the living area, the dining area and the formal living space merge into one entity, but with enough separation to have a distinct identity.
“The house presented us with an opportunity to experience the outdoors and the entire skyline of the city. Hence, we wanted to create an animated and exaggerated connection of the indoors with the outdoors. Since the family had a lot of old art, artefacts and objects that had been passed on to them as a part of their legacy, the design process became about celebrating the same,” explains Akshat.
