Making a space your own is all in the detail, which is exactly what Ediana and Kevin have achieved their Westmeath home.

Personal Touch

When Ediana Dolan, a stay at home mum currently studying interior design, first set eyes on this three bedroom detached house in Killucan County Westmeath, her dream was to create a space that she and her husband, Kevin, a design manager, and their two children Oisin, eight and Caoimhe, five, could call home. The house was within the couple’s budget, it had a south facing garden and had the added bonus of being in walking distance of the local school. Although it didn’t need any structural work it was, however, in need of a makeover, ‘It had previously been rented out, it was a sea of magnolia and pine, something had to be done,’ explains Ediana.

Ediana has always been into interior design, but as she had only previously rented she was limited in what she could do. So owning her first home meant she could, at last, give her creative juices free rein and utilise her talent and Kevin’s practical skills to put their own stamp on the house. ‘When we moved in we basically just painted the walls, ceilings, stairs and doors white, just to give us a blank canvas on which to build,’ says Ediana. ‘Then I started finding my style which I gradually introduced in ways that complemented the space I had to work with, getting braver with colour and pattern.’
