A cool Scandi vibe enhanced with colourful artwork and personal treasures, collected over time, gives this new build in Monkstown a unique and homely feel.
Back in 2018 Kathrin and her husband sold their family home in Stillorgan and bought a house in Monkstown that they spent time gutting and renovating. Once this project was complete they decided to sell and take on another project. They wanted to stay in the area as they loved the close proximity to the sea, all the lovely restaurants and the local walks. The house they renovated had a large garden and they could see the development potential to build a new house that would utilise the site to its best advantage, so they embarked on a new build, right next door to their old home.

Kathrin’s husband, a building contractor by profession, designed this four-bedroom detached home to be as functional and energy-efficient as possible. ‘It’s A-rated with underfloor heating with heat recovery and air to the water system which means it remains at a constant temperature all the time. There is no need to fuss with timers and we have as much hot water as we want,’ explains Kathrin. The key objective was to create a spacious heart of the home, which features a large open-plan kitchen dining and living area. The high ceilings and vast expanse of glass, supplied by Rationel, serve to enhance the spacious feel and bring the outside in, creating a layout that flows easily between the house and the pretty garden.
