For years, Kolkata-based Bapi Das spent hours each day as a part-time gardener at the Kolkata Municipal Cooperation and parttime auto-rickshaw driver. He later brought the essence of his observations to embroider cloth and this endeavor nurtured the artist in him.
Drawing from his time spent driving the auto, the city’s urban and cultural fabric, and his own sensibilities, Bapi took up the needle, thread, and fabric to embroider endearing works that portray his experiences and responses to life around him.
