Raise Your Home To The Heights Of Relaxed Sophistication
Home Beautiful
|June 2021
Bold material selections and carefully considered decorative details raise this family home to the heights of relaxed sophistication
SIMPLE PLEASURES The scenery that opens up from super-sized windows across from the dining area, kitchen and living area (below & opposite) of this home in Finland is like a painting that shifts with the seasons, and it’s here that owners Tiina, her husband Riku and their son Leo, 11, come together. “I love the living room with the view and the fireplace,” says Tiina. “We spend a lot of time there reading, drinking tea and watching TV.” True to the home’s aesthetic – sleek-contemporary meets rustic – the dining area (below) features industrial-style lights by Granit spotlighting a dark-timber table from Käinby 1925. The family’s American Staffy Kara (pictured opposite) likes to snag the warmest spot in the home, next to the rotating ‘Ergofocus’ fireplace from Fokus (opposite).

Suspended from the ceiling of Tiina and Riku’s home is the one non-negotiable piece they had already locked in before the plans for their build were even finalised. “A fireplace was a must, forming the starting point for designing the living room,” says Tiina, of the home she and her husband share with their son Leo. Having considered it for the first home they built, they were keen to follow through this time and planning for the new build had to work around this focal point.

Deck the DOORS
The front door is our favourite place to make a festive first impression, and it doesn't have to involve a traditional wreath. From fragrant foliage and whimsical florals to ribbons, bells and pine cones, there are countless ways to deck your doorway in seasonal style. It might even be the perfect time to adorn your door with a fresh coat of paint. Here, we've matched Wattyl's most beautiful hues with decorative touches to ring in the holidays in style – and keep the cheer shining long after the season ends.
