Let There Be Light

Drawing on various design influences, Sophie Norton and husband Peter have opened up a poorly laid-out house to make an elegant home

When Sophie Norton and her husband Peter first saw the 17th-century farmhouse that was to become their home, it ticked all the right boxes. Set in the Warwickshire countryside in front of a deer park, the property was spacious with a big garden and had plenty of potential. ‘The house was in good shape,’ says Sophie, ‘but spatially it didn’t really work for us or our children, George, now 18, Sebastian, 15, and Celia, 11. Apart from the beautiful hallway, everywhere was dark and closed off, so our aim was to create a more open home, filled with natural light.’
