As Glam As It Is Hardworking, This Dramatic Melbourne Kitchen Caters To Its Owner’s Love For Entertaining.
island dream
As an entertaining hub, the island – partnered with Sean Dix ‘Factory’ bar stools – is the focal point of this kitchen. “I tend to do a big buffet when we have guests over and everyone gathers around the island,” says homeowner Vicky. “It’s just a really lovely space to congregate.”

peekaboo shelves
Home to an ever-changing array of cookbooks, serving platters, bowls and favourite collectables, the wall-mounted shelves set behind retractable doors are one of Vicky’s favourite elements of the new kitchen. “There are times when I leave the cupboard open so the display can be seen,” she explains. “It’s a feature within a feature.”
scene stealer
Presenting more as an architectural feature than an appliance, this oversized custom-made rangehood by Qasair makes a strong style statement. “The ceiling is high – around three metres – and it’s such an open space, so I felt we needed to add something that made quite an impact,” says Vicky. “The rangehood does bring a bit of wow factor and a point of difference to the kitchen.”

Deck the DOORS
The front door is our favourite place to make a festive first impression, and it doesn't have to involve a traditional wreath. From fragrant foliage and whimsical florals to ribbons, bells and pine cones, there are countless ways to deck your doorway in seasonal style. It might even be the perfect time to adorn your door with a fresh coat of paint. Here, we've matched Wattyl's most beautiful hues with decorative touches to ring in the holidays in style – and keep the cheer shining long after the season ends.
