When a seasoned renovator and an interior designer become partners in design, as well as in life, the results speak for themselves.
TAKING IT EASY
By playing with texture, homeowner Jeff’s partner, interior designer Sheira, has added layers of life to this living room in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. A ‘Jane’ leather-wrapped coffee table from Camerich contrasts with bronze nesting tables from Weylandts, while the simple linen sofas (for similar, try MCM House) are dressed with muted mustard textiles – a linen throw from Hale Mercantile Co and cushions from Orson & Blake. The black patchwork rug is from Home & Giftware. Deciding to drop the living areas below the house’s entry level solved the problem of the sloping site and enabled the rear to open directly onto the garden (opposite). Narrow widths of cedar decking have been installed with concealed fixings – although Jeff (pictured opposite, with Sheira) admits this was time-consuming and expensive. The pay-off, however, is a spectacular outdoor space. Guests who sit at the ‘Aquila’ outdoor table on ‘Corillo’ armchairs, both from Eco Outdoor, invariably focus on Christina Waterson’s modular aluminium sculpture Stellar. An Entanglements ‘Rings Bowl & Base’ fire pit from The Block Shop adds a rustic touch.

Deck the DOORS
The front door is our favourite place to make a festive first impression, and it doesn't have to involve a traditional wreath. From fragrant foliage and whimsical florals to ribbons, bells and pine cones, there are countless ways to deck your doorway in seasonal style. It might even be the perfect time to adorn your door with a fresh coat of paint. Here, we've matched Wattyl's most beautiful hues with decorative touches to ring in the holidays in style – and keep the cheer shining long after the season ends.
