The Cessna T-37 and A-37 in Scale

- Jack Trent

It's Time to Tweet

Modellers with growing collections arecontinually challenged by the problem of space, and while collections covering a complete air force might be desirable, the need to accommodate both large and small types in a single scale is rarely possible – even if you can find the kits needed.

My fondness for the diminutive Cessna jet stems from viewing the USAF SIG’s display at model shows, in which the club had amassed a remarkable collection of types ranging from the smallest trainers right up to the C-5 Galaxy, all in 1/72. Realising that such a display was well beyond my limitations I lit upon what was for me one of the most attractive models in the line up – a squat, heavily armed Cessna A-37B, complete with photoetched FOD guards and an exquisite paint job. I assume it was the Academy kit with the Airwaves etched set, but it was a while ago now and I may have been mistaken. This inspired a long-abandoned collection based on the type, but my interest has recently been rekindled, and with modelling skills improved over time, and enough shelf space to accommodate at least a dozen in some of the many schemes it has carried, a closer look at the currently available product seems timely.
