It’s all too easy to reach for the whistle when a voice command fails but you must make sure the basics are in place first, says Ellena Swift

Both Keepa and Sika have come on really well over te summer. I am pleased to say training can now resume as normal after a couple of weeks’ rest to settle in our latest arrival — baby girl Heidi.

We are now on the cusp of the season’s start for my team, with only a week to go until our first day in the field. Sika has been doing fantastically well with her owner, walking round the poults and practising all the basics with birds around. This is vital if she is to cope with her first day out.
