“When exactly did you go to China?” I asked. “Just over two years ago,” Lawrence Wong replied. “That’s fast for you to get to where you are – it’s such a short period of time.” “It has a lot to do with luck and timing.” [Laughs]

Wong is a go-getter, and that’s a drastic understatement. The first time I noticed this about him, I was interviewing him previously for another cover. “It’s been one incredible whirlwind ride and I don’t even know how I did it!” he said during this interview. “I’ve been really blessed and lucky, but I think luck is an accumulation of years and years of hard work, experience and dedication. My work and role as an actor are still the same actually, just that it’s now on a much bigger platform and a lot more people see what vI do.” If there is one thing I am certain of, you can trust Wong to leave no stone unturned.

The Story of Yanxi Palace has got to be Wong’s biggest project to date. My curiosity got the better of me: how did he get casted to play Hai Lan Cha in the record-smashing drama series? “It’s amazingly simple actually. My company introduced me to the producer, who I guess liked what he saw in me and offered me the role immediately,” he said with a grin on his face. Wong was smiling throughout the interview; his grin grew so wide to the point it made his eyes crinkle at the corners when I asked if there was a funny moment he was
