BE HAPPY

Two months ago, I was announced as the head of One Mega Group, a position previously held by our late Founder, Sari Yap, and then our current Chairman, Archie Carasco. Full disclosure, I knew about this announcement six months ago at the height of the pandemic. When I was told, I laughed. I wasn’t sure if it was a nervous laughter, an amused chuckle or both. I honestly thought it was a prank that would be revealed seconds later, but it wasn’t.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be President because I’m the type of person who is happy with whatever is accorded to me. I’m also someone who is naturally very helpful especially if I have the means to extend an extra hand. Helming a 29-year-old top media brand is a whole new level and no laughing matter, so I dedicated the next few months to reflect on what kind of leader I want to be. While I have talents and high comfort level in areas such as story telling and creatives, I also know that I’m not excellent at everything. But then again, who is? One thing I know is that you have to be self aware to be able to perform. If you aren’t good at something, it is okay to ask for help even from someone that isn’t your level. Being a good leader means working with people who are better than you.
