Most Common Career Mistakes Women Make And How To Fix Them
Cosmopolitan Philippines
|September 2016
Are you pressing the Self Destruct button at work without even knowing it? cosmo asked executive coach Suzy roxas to highlight five of the most common career mistakes women often make and how we can fix them.
It’s 2016. Feminism isn’t a word relegated to the halls of academic institutions, and it’s (finally!) rarer to find a woman who doesn’t describe herself as a feminist than one who does. However, for all the steps we’ve taken in the right direction, there are certain situations when women still get the short end of the stick.
One of these places is the workplace. The pay gap exists— most men are still paid more than a woman doing the same job—and though the corporate world has opened its doors to female leaders, there are significantly fewer women at the top than there are men, despite their being as well educated and intellectually capable as their male counterparts.
The dominating culture in most industries still very much determined by men. So, to survive, we need to play by certain rules. That, however, doesn’t mean that a woman needs to submit and pander to the desires of men; if anything, we can (and should) be making a change. Big ones, yes, but little ones too, and sometimes, all it takes is changing how we think and doing away with archaic (or incorrectly held) beliefs and practices.
