January 2022

It was a great year for the Architects guitarist, as the band scored their first number one album and his latest signature model was launched

My 2021 Josh Middleton

For Those That Wish To Exist topped the UK album chart. Which songs really stand out for you?

Impermanence is the one I enjoy the most live. It has this slightly different and darker melodic element to it and I get to do some weird sinister-sounding lead stuff. There aren’t many solos on this album. I really like the big doomy riff that comes in during the middle-eight of Ordinary Extinction. It’s this big octave wall of guitars so it feels extra heavy. I actually do have a bit of a solo at the end, well, more like a lead. It’s quite Billy Howerdel-inspired, it has that A Perfect Circle kind of sound – especially with that chorusing effect we added in.

What guitar did you play most this year?
