More than 20 years ago, documentary-maker Louis Theroux started out on what would become a televisual tour around some of the stranger aspects of life at home and abroad.

With a friendly and inquisitive manner that encourages people to open up, the 50-year-old has gamely thrown himself into the lifestyles of everyone from porn stars and swingers to religious fundamentalists and survivalists.

He has also documented the daily lives of celebrities, notably the late Jimmy Savile, whom he asked about his alleged child sex abuse.
