Daisy May Cooper is a suspected witch in a spellbinding new comedy

- RICHARD MCCLURE, STEVEN PERKINS

WITCHY Woman

This Country’s Daisy May Cooper travels back to 17th-century England this week in BBC2’s new sitcom The Witchfinder.

The six-part series sees comedian Tim Key as Gideon Bannister, an unsuccessful prosecutor of suspected sorceresses who is convinced he just needs one good case to transform his fortunes.

While overseeing the trial of Thomasine Gooch, played by Cooper, who is accused of hexing a pig, an unexpected turn of events gives Gideon the chance to meet the Witchfinder General. All he has to do is transport Thomasine to a show trial – but, unfortunately, the quick-witted Thomasine is not his ideal travelling companion.
