Katherine Kelly on playing Liar’s devious detective DI Karen Renton

Even though chilling rapist Andrew Earlham is dead, his sins are still casting a long shadow in the second run of ITV thriller Liar.

After exposing his crimes, teacher Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt), one of his victims, is now the prime suspect for the murder of Andrew (Ioan Gruffudd), and in this week’s episode, DI Karen Renton (Katherine Kelly), who is leading the investigation, starts playing dirty to get results.

For Kelly, last seen in Netflix’s Criminal, the chance to join the cast was one she couldn’t refuse. Liar sees her reunite with the show’s writers Harry and Jack Williams, who produced her 2019 ITV thriller Cheat.
