Over the past few years, Derren Brown’s psychological experiments have grown more and more ambitious – none more so than The Push, in which he tried to persuade four people to push a man off a building, which would have resulted in his death (three of them wanted to do so).

Now, in his first TV special for Netflix, the self-described ‘mentalist’ pulls out all the stops as he attempts the exact opposite – to make someone lay down their life in order to save the skin of a complete stranger.

In Sacrifice, Brown uses all his powers of persuasion to make a prejudiced American stand up to bigotry and take a bullet – literally – for someone he thinks is an illegal Mexican immigrant.
