Louise Fletcher won an Oscar for her memorable portrayal of the tyrannical and sadistic Nurse Ratched in iconic 1976 movie One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Now, the story of the character’s dark past is being explored in a new eight-part Netflix drama.

The series begins in 1947, nearly 20 years before the events of the hit film starring Jack Nicholson took place. After serving with distinction during World War Two, Mildred Ratched, played by Sarah Paulson, arrives in California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.
