Desperately Seeking Noah

NEW DRAMA

The Cry

Sunday, BBC1 Hd, 9pm

If you’re missing BBC1’s heartstopping Sunday night drama Bodyguard, don’t worry – new thriller The Cry should fill that gap.

Victoria star Jenna Coleman leads the cast as Joanna, a young mother who is struggling to cope with her newborn baby, Noah. She is plunged into a nightmare when her son goes missing on a trip to Australia.

While there are echoes of the Madeleine McCann case, the fourpart adaptation of Helen FitzGerald’s novel is completely fictional, and it will keep you guessing until the end.

MUM’s The Word

‘Joanna is a primary-school teacher who’s married to a charming PR guy, Alistair. They have a baby together and Joanna is dealing with postnatal depression, although she doesn’t realise it,’ explains Coleman when we meet on set. ‘Alistair has another child, Chloe, in Australia, and the family go out there as part of a custody battle.

‘But, once there, their baby goes missing. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare, and what is interesting is that Joanna doesn’t behave in the way you’d expect a mother in that situation to behave. As a viewer, you get thrown in many directions – there are lots of twists and turns.’
