Get set to enter a murky world of lies, betrayal and corruption in BBC1’s timely new drama The Capture, which examines the extraordinary power of fake news in the ‘post-truth’ era.

The opening episode of the six-part conspiracy thriller sees British soldier Shaun Emery (Callum Turner) have his conviction for a murder in Afghanistan overturned due to flawed video evidence.

Yet before Shaun can settle back into his old life with his six-year-old daughter, troubling CCTV footage emerges of him kidnapping someone on the streets of London and the ex-soldier finds himself fighting for his freedom once again.

‘Shaun’s been through a lot in his life,’ says Turner. ‘His parents are dead, the Army abandoned him, his girlfriend left and then he spent six months in jail for a crime he shouldn’t have been convicted of.
