Tracking down one of Guardians Of The Galaxy’s most wanted...

- Richard Edwards

Michael Rooker

Look at the early years of Michael Rooker’s CV and he barely ventures into SFX territory – after breaking out in Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, his career was instead marked by high-profile supporting turns in the real-world likes of Days Of Thunder, Cliffhanger, Tombstone and JFK. Since James Gunn cast him as the human host of an alien with world domination on his mind in Slither, however, he’s become something of a genre stalwart. “If you look back most of my work is pretty naturalistic,” he says. “I didn’t do a lot of science fiction, and then all of a sudden it just started happening and I’m really happy. Sometimes you start doing a certain type of film and you start getting offers and scripts that are similar in nature.” This month sees Rooker returning to the role that brought him to the masses, as cinema’s top blue space pirate with a telepathically controlled arrow...

ALTERED STATES

Essentially Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde if it'd been written by Carlos Castenada, Ken Russell's characteristically unrestrained take on a script by Network's Paddy Chayefsky is a bracing mix of acid trip visuals and hoary old tropes.
