Empires are made up of many nations, and Empire Of The Vampire is made up of many fairly easily identifiable parts. The world is mostly medieval France, with a dash of Celt and Norse – because everyone loves those noble bruisers, right?
The story is littered with clichés, from the rebellious hero who ends up rejecting the military-religious order he’s been drafted into, to the beautiful novice nun he leaves it for (there may not be fridges in this world, but you know that the equivalent awaits her), to the betrayals you can spot a long way off. And everything’s laden with references to genitals and breasts to the point of being irritating, so desperate is the book to seem adult.
