LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
God’s own country – and then some! Arguably as beautiful as Yorkshire gets (fight among yourselves over that). Little villages dotted across the sprawling North York Moors National Park that are the stuff of dreams. You’ve got solitude, you’ve got community, you’ve got big skies, And yes, the likelihood of getting snowed in. For some, that’s bliss in itself. Villages like Goathland and Grosmont have been stars of the big and small screen, not least thanks to their steam train stop-offs. Gentle Danby is home to the Moors Centre and quirky Egton is known for its gooseberry championship! The villages span a vast and unspoilt area with a top of the world feel – few views are as good as ‘over the top’ from Pickering as the coastline comes in to view.
BAG A PROPERTY
Live the dream why don’t you? The world is your oyster. Big budget or small, the villages can offer something for all. A five-bedroom country house in Glaisdale with a heritage kitchen range comes in at £850,000 or in Aislaby near Whitby a stunning Georgian manor house is ours for £650,000. A lot of house for your cash compared to other parts of Yorkshire. In honeypot hotspots like Hutton le Hole, the prices can be steep – expect to pay £600,000 plus for a detached period cottage. In Castleton there are sweet stone terraces to be found around the £180,000 mark.
EASY ACCESS?
Relatively, and weather dependent. The A171 is subject to the rigours of moorland weather as are most of the roads that lead to the ‘big towns’ of Pickering. Kirkbymoorside and Whitby. By train the Esk Valley line heads to Whitby from Teesside – or take the steam train from Pickering for the real romance of the railway.
