I‘ve just come back from a drive into Scarborough. In non pandemic times I would probably not be at all bothered about fighting through the tourist traffic to catch a view of the seaside, I’d be in my garden with a book instead, listening to the traffic from the roads around the holiday parks and wondering if there’d be any bread left on the shelves in Tesco when I crept out to do my food shop at 9pm. Usually, I avoid the beach in the summer holidays. I’d like to say I avoid it like the plague, but to be frank, I have had enough of avoiding places because of the plague. Lockdown has eased, though we wait with bated breath to see if anyone will endure a ‘local’ lockdown. The families are returning, the camp sites are full and the little B&Bs and hotels are suddenly thriving, the beach is busy and as usual there’s nowhere to park. For the first time in years I want to experience that. I want to experience the bucket and spade fami
