Painting pictures on radio is a rare talent and Ferndown is where you will find one of the masters of this broadcasting skill

IF I was really trying to impress someone, I might describe myself as a professional broadcaster. But that feels like an exaggeration; like calling a bacon butty ‘haute cuisine’. I look up to professional broadcasters. And in my opinion the best of the bunch are sports commentators.
Really good commentators are a class apart. Not only are they accurate, they have to talk and think fast, and be able to find the right words when the rest of us are hiding behind our fingers or communicating solely in cheers. And every so often they might utter a phrase that echoes through the decades - like ‘It’s coming back to Jonny Wilkinson, he drops for World Cup glory!’ Or ‘Murray’s the Wimbledon Champion, it seems ludicrous to say it!’ Or, my personal favourite, ‘Mo Farah! Gritting his teeth now, the arms have got to pump, the knees have got to come up high… I think he’s going to get there… Beautiful!’
