They’re a thoroughly modern young couple who make up their own rules. So when it came time for Zara and Mike Tindall to announce they’re expecting their third child, it was no surprise they did it in a completely non-royal way.

Rather than follow protocol and wait for Buckingham Palace to announce that the Olympic equestrian rider, 39, is pregnant again, the former captain of the British rugby team shared the news on his podcast, The Good, The Bad and The Rugby on December 9.

“It’s been a good week for me, had a little scan last week – third Tindall on its way,” the 42-year-old proudly boasted to his co-hosts Alex Payne and James Haskell, who met Tindall’s news with cheers.

Following the announcement, a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace revealed that Zara’s grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were “aware and delighted” of the news.
