FANS were elated when Gwen Stefani recently revealed she's returning to The Voice after a four-year absence from the hit singing competition. "See you this fall!" she announced on social media May 15 alongside a video of her singing with her fellow mentors, John Legend, newcomer Camila Cabello and Gwen's husband of nearly one year, Blake Shelton.

At home, however, she's singing a different tune. What should be a happy time for the newlyweds has been overshadowed by tension, an insider tells Star, as the two squabble over everything from lifestyle to home decor. "The honeymoon phase appears to be over," says the insider. Now, adds the insider, the two are looking at Blake's tour as a trial separation. "Reality is setting in," says the insider, "and Gwen and Blake are having a tough time adapting to life as a married couple."

Some question whether the down-home Ada, Okla., native, and the glam California girl were doomed from the start. "Blake's a no-frills country guy, while Gwen's a city girl at heart who won't show her face without full makeup," says the insider. "They were always an odd match in so many ways."
