Despite his questionable judgment over the years when it comes to his love life, Liam has long been portrayed as a man with a strong moral compass. Accidentally hitting Vinny and covering up the crime has thrown the do-gooder into a tailspin — and it’s a welcome change. Liam unspooled and forced to play by Bill’s questionable rules is something we haven’t seen before, and portrayer Scott Clifton is doing a stellar job conveying his alter ego’s torment. Then, with Liam at rock bottom, Hope surprised him by asking him to reconcile and the elation on his face was clear, a flickering of the guilt-free life he lived before that fateful night. But once Liam remembered Bill’s warnings about what he had to lose should the truth come out, his brief happiness evaporated. Navigating the dizzying highs and lows of his current dilemma is a provocative turn for the soap’s resident “good guy”, and we’re on board for seeing how he grapples with and tries to move forward from this life-altering event.
