SRK Ka Magic Chalega Kya?

Films of a superstar like Shah Rukh Khan are always something people look forward to. However, his movies in the recent past haven’t done fairly well at the Box office.

Though Shah Rukh’s presence in Raees was quite a charmer, it didn’t do that well in the market. Apparently, Dilwale, Dear Zindagi, Jab Harry Met Sejal too didn’t turn out to be great sellers of 2017. And to top it, no recent Shah Rukh Khan film faced as much flak as Jab Harry Met Sejal. Supposedly, even before the first show had ended the reactions that were ‘live-tweeted’ sealed the fate of the film.

And despite the extraordinary ensemble of Khan, Anushka Sharma and Imtiaz Ali, the film was a washout... However, Imtiaz had reportedly defended the failure by saying that he never intended to make “an intellectual masterpiece”. The film’s Box office collection was estimated to be ₹ 150 crore (worldwide), of which about ₹ 89 crore was said to be its India gross. So no wonder, questions have been raised doubting SRK’s power to give blockbusters. So is Shah Rukh Khan losing the battle of the Khans? Read on…

Breaking Stereotypes

A few months back, a short teaser of his upcoming film Zero was launched on New Year’s Day as a gift to his fans, and in no time, Zero was the talk of the town. In this Aanand L Rai’s film Shah Rukh Khan is portraying the character of a ‘little man’ or colloquially a dwarf. By opting to play, a ‘little man’ in Zero, Shah Rukh Khan has now successfully busted the ‘hero’ mould. Undoubtedly a risk, but SRK is one Badshah who can pull it off. So why the experiment at this stage?
