August 2017

This woman has a very strong screen presence, and that surely is seen on the 70 mm regardless of the character she portrays. KIRTI KULHARI dressed in a crisp white shirt, high-waist blue jeans with minimal makeup and a bright flush on her cheeks, sips coffee, and in between, is ready for a tête-à-tête with Stardust. The lady with the Pink sash believes her time has arrived. And though she insists she isn’t the kind to flaunt her body to get fame instead prefers to set a benchmark by giving remarkable performances. Is the halo of luck shining bright upon her? "Indu Sarkar Has Given Me The Most Challenging Role I Have Ever Played."-Kirti Kulhari

How was your journey from your first film Khichdi to the latest Indu Sarkar?

The journey has been long. Khichdi released in 2010 and now it’s 2017. I think the success that I got now post Pink agar jald hi miljaata Khichdi aur Shaitan ke time pe then by now I would have done much more work and the kind of work I like. In my journey, I have had my share of lows, disappointments, and rejections. At the same time, I have also grown a lot as an actor in these last seven years, from my first film to Indu Sarkar. As I said if I would have got this success six years back I would have been happier. And I say I have grown as an actor is because each time I was not doing films, I was working on myself as an actor. I was doing theatre continuously on the side.

How was your experience working with Madhur Bhandarkar in your latest film?

Well, I will surely cherish the whole experience of Indu Sarkar. Because again it’s a film where I am playing the title role, it’s the biggest role and Indu Sarkar has given me the most challenging role I have ever played. I always wanted to work with Madhur because I think he is one person who as a filmmaker is one of those very few who has consistently made films with a female protagonist. Which is quite rare in our industry, and Madhur has against everyone done that consistently. So I have a lot of respect for him. And Madhur is in his elements more than ever, because he is so much into the film, and it’s a very important film for him as well. It was the easiest shoot environment I have experienced myself to be in. Madhur and I are closer from where we started, we are great friends. We share a great bond and I am sure it’ll go beyond Indu Sarkar.
