A BREAKTHROUGH medication has been approved by the FDA to fight COVID-19, but it can cause potentially life-threatening interactions with a variety of widely prescribed drugs, warned experts.

Pfizer’s at-home treatment, Paxlovid, is a drug cocktail consisting of the antiviral nirmatrelvir along with a booster called ritonavir. But along with increasing nirmatrelvir’s effectiveness, ritonavir can also boost the potency of other drugs to toxic levels.
