Since finding fame in the MTV show Geordie Shore, Marnie Simpson has amassed three million followers on Instagram and another million on Twitter, and spends plenty of time interacting with her fans on social media.

The only problem is, not all the attention she gets is the welcome kind. Some of it – the nasty trolls – might be easy to ignore. But there’s one man who’s taken things too far. Marnie, 26, recently revealed she has a stalker who contacts her constantly on social media.

‘I post, then he comments on it,’ she says. ‘He genuinely thinks he has a relationship with me, he thinks we have a pet together.’

Marnie hasn’t taken any legal action over the messages, as she’s confident she’s not at risk from the man. 

But Chloe Hopkins, 25, knows how unwanted attention can quickly spiral out of control...

As the town’s Christmas lights flashed on and the crowd erupted into cheers, I smiled.

It was December 2010, and as the winner of Miss Prestatyn, I’d been so excited to switch on the lights. I was 18 and had just been signed to a music management company. I loved performing – on stage was where I felt at my most confident.

Mingling with the crowd afterwards, and shaking hands with locals, I noticed a man who was standing on his own. He was shy when I said hello but I thought nothing more of it.

The next morning, I had several new Facebook friend requests from people I’d met at the event.

As I accepted them, I noticed a message ping in my inbox.

Although I didn’t know the name on the profile – Anthony Mantova – I recognised his face.It was the man from the night before.
