Indian telecommunication services with 1 billion plus subscribers and 450,000 towers is a pivotal part of everyone’s life. Proliferation of tele-com services has led to social and economic development of the bottom of pyramid. According to the World Bank, a 10-percentage increase in broadband penetration raises GDP of a country by 1.48 percent approximately. Therefore, the importance of telecom services is indispensable for an inclusive development of the society.
“The expansion of 4G services, improved affordability, penetration of smartphones, and surge in data demand have opened up new opportunities for the telecom tower industry,” says Tilak Raj Dua, Director General, TAIPA.
TRAI have also recommended allowing IPs to participate in establishing and maintaining in-building solutions (IBS) and public Wi-Fi hotspots. Further, TRAI in its recent recommendations on IBS and Wi-Fi proliferation have highlighted significance of active involvement of IPs in providing seamless connectivity to the masses.
