A MODEL ROADMAP FOR A SMARTER WORLD

The Gurugram smart city project is a model roadmap in the making for other smart cities to adapt and deploy
-
As more and more people migrate to urban centers in search of better opportunities, the existing city infrastructure including roads, water, sewage, drainage, and electricity is getting overstressed day by day. Cities are under constant pressure to continually augment physical infrastructure and optimally utilize scarce resources. With its inorganic growth and presence of over 500 corporate and MNCs, the population of Gurugram is further expected to rise to 40 lakh by 2031 from the present level of 25 lakh. The demand always surprises the infrastructure created.
Smart city is the concept of managing public infrastructure in cities from a centralized location by deploying information and communication technology (ICT) tools. This is expected to enhance the performance and quality of urban services such as energy, connectivity, transportation, utilities, and governance, among others. A smart city is a framework of ‘intelligent network’ of connected objects and machines that transmit data using communication technology to the data center/cloud. In essence, the integrated command control center (ICCC) receives and manages data in real time to help enterprises and residents make better decisions that improve quality of life. These decisions can reduce traffic congestion and energy disruption as well as boost Internet connectivity and other services while cutting costs.
With the inauguration of Smart City Gurugram by Chief Minister Manohar Lal on 7 December 2019, the city is now on its way to transformation with management of civic facilities and infrastructure with efficient use of ICT.
Smart City Architecture
The smart city architecture will have the following five essential components
• Integrated command and control center (ICCC)
• Data center/cloud and IP Security Communication network infrastructure
• Smart infrastructure of utilities
