Este licenciado en medicina por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y doctor por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, se formó como cardiólogo clínico en la Fundación Jiménez Díaz de Madrid. Sin embargo, Borja Ibáñez Cabeza siempre tuvo claro que la investigación sería parte de su vida y se fue a Nueva York para continuar con su formación. Desde su regreso a España, compagina su actividad científica en el CNIC con la actividad clínica en el Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz.
Eligió la cardiología de entre todas las opciones que la medicina ofrece, ¿por qué le gustó esta especialidad?
Siempre tuve una pasión especial por el funcionamiento del corazón y del cerebro. Entre ambas especialidades, me decidí por la cardiología por el gran desarrollo de nuevas terapias en este campo. Siempre tuve claro que quería compaginar la clínica con la investigación y, sin duda, esta especialidad permite esta dualidad.
