Respected aviation leader and CEO of Scoot Campbell Wilson, the LCC arm of Singapore Airlines will be joining Air India as the MD and CEO. It's a fine choice and a good start by the Tatas.

Scooting off to lead the Maharaja

Campbell Wilson, a dyed-in-the-wool aviation professional who is from New Zealand but has spent all his working life with SIA (Singapore International Airlines) is the new CEO and Managing Director of Air India. He will come to thew Maharaja from the low-cost arm of SIA-Scoot, where he has twice been the CEO- once when the airline was founded in 2011 and again in 2020.

It helps that he is a complete travel freak. Between completing university and joining SIA, Wilson travelled extensively in Europe and North America, backpacking in a true low-cost fashion. “Since then, he has continued to indulge his passion for travel- cycling in Italy and France, rafting the Grand Canyon, walking the Great Wall and kayaking national parks in New Zealand. He can be found running or eating in hawkers' markets when not travelling or working," according to information available on global events company Terrapinn's website.

Wilson has also served as the senior Vice-President (sales and marketing) of SIA, where he oversaw pricing, distribution, e-commerce, merchandising, brand & marketing, global sales and the airline's overseas offices, before returning for a second stint as the CEO of Scoot in April 2020.
